Today Frodo and Sam destroyed the One-Ring

March 25th was, therefore, set as Tolkien reading day. Here is a nice quote I saw:

“The world is indeed full of peril and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands, love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.” – Haldir, The Fellowship of the Ring

Civilized men are more discourteous than savages because they know they can be impolite without having their skulls split, as a general thing.
-Robert E. Howard, "The Tower of the Elephant"

Ahh, but neither Frodo nor Sam destroyed the Ring (and technically, neither did Gollum/Sméagol). The Ring was destroyed the only way it could ever be destroyed - by accident ;).

But yes, the Haldir quote seems appropriate for the current situation :D.
