Steam Chat/Teamspeak for SotM

Hey everyone.

Before I start, firstly I just wanna introduce myself (being new n' all). I only found out about Sentinels of the Mutliverse a few days ago via Steam. When I saw it I thought to my self "What the heck, it looks fun - I'm gonna buy it" - so I did. And oh man, I have had so much fun. I love the game, the characters - all of it. In fact, Sentinels is the only game that I enjoyed so much to actually wright a (positive :D) Steam review for. So a big thanks to Christopher (and the devs) for making such an awesome game.

And since I have been enjoying SotM so much, I want to talk and socialise with others who enjoy and play the game! That is why I firstly came here to the forum - but I have also been hanging out in the Steam group chat for SotM for two days now - and it has been completely empty. *sadface*

So I am wondering if anyone else here uses/would use the Steam chat? I know there is no technical multiplayer in the game right now, but I just thought it would be nice if the community could have a place to meet and chat, other than just the forums. That is also why I mention Teamspeak in the topic title. I know some have used Skype to play SotM (digital version) together/socialise and talk about SotM, but Skype isn't a collective room that people can join and leave, such as teamspeak is.

So I was wondering 1. If anyone would like to use the Steam chat for SotM as a social zone for players, and 2. If an official SotM Teamspeak 3 server would be a possiblility (such a server would be of huge benefit especially for when multiplayer goes live for the Steam version).

Thanks all. :)

I'd much prefer Skype for voice chat. Seems a lot less of a hassle than Teamspeak, whatever that is.

Perhaps - but as I said - Skype is not somewhere were you can just jump in and out from. Teamspeak uses a server that is always up, and people can just join and leave at will. In the server there are channels that people can join to talk with others in said channels. It is very useful for communities/gaming.

Teamspeak is like Skype without the video.

I used Teamspeak and Ventrillo (basically the same program) when I was a Raid Leader in WoW to talk with everyone at once while in game.

Skype doesn't have to have video...I mean, it can, but I've never personally used it (though I've chatted to my sister when she was working in Egypt and had a webcam). I just text chat to people, generally, except for my partner whom I voice chat with every night (well, nearly - tonight is an extremely rare exception as he's working a night shift and would've already left for that by the time I got home from work :(), because he's not very fast at typing and also because we game together a lot and voice chat makes things so much easier :).

I did have Teamspeak on my old computer when I was part of a gaming group but only used it a couple of times.

I didn't know Steam had actual multiple-person chat. So far I've only ever used it to chat to the very few people in my friends list. I'm not even sure if it has audio chat (but probably - most such chat features seem to have audio now, though I'm not fussed about using it unless I'm gaming with someone).

@Pydro - Thanks!

@Ameena - Yeah, well Skype is more useful for general communication (calling and video calls), while Teamspeak is more orientated for communities and gaming (eats up less RAM IIRC). But yeah, on Steam if you go to the Sentinels of the Multiverse: The Video Game Community Hub, in the top right it will say "X in Group Chat" - "Group Chat" will be underlined and if you click on it, it will connect you to that group chat. There is also a group voice chat system apparently, but it most likely sucks. (This is where Teamspeak would be more useful).

Ahh, I don't think I've ever checked out the community hub for a game - normally I just play them and that's it ;). Maybe I'll check it out some time, but it's nearly midnight here and I'm soon to go to bed (I have work tomorrow and I'm ill and should be getting more sleep anyway). If I get chatting to anyone, I'm normally around for hours ;).

Sure! I will be in the Steam group chat as often as I can. Just pop in when you get the chance. :)

There are some good discussions going on in the community there too.

Our plan for network multiplayer includes cross-platform voice chat =)

Very nice! As long as it is easy to use with good quality (which I am sure it will be), then that will be great.
