Forced Deployment and villains not able to play cards

Forced Deployment and villains not able to play cards

In a game last night we had Forced Deployment in the Villain play area and 8 cards in the villain trash.
Legacy had the card (can't remamber the name) that villains can't play cards in their turn.
In this case what should we have done?

It has been stated previously (a question asked by me actually) that playing a villain card specifically referse to taking the top card of the villian deck and placing into play.  Placing a villain card into play using any other method is not playing a card.
