Living Sentinels Campaign #2 - Results Thread

Living Sentinels Campaign #2

The Living Sentinels Campaign!

 (Rules from lynkfox...thanks!)

1.     Each player may submit 1 game results. You can play as many games as you want, but you may only submit 1 game result.

2.     Each chapter of the campaign will last about a week. After a week or so (give or take a few days) the games results will be tallied depending on several standard things to note, and several things individual to the game (They will be listed in the scenario)

3.     After the due date of the scenario, no other games will count. You are of course welcome to play the scenario yourself, if you want a challenge in some way, but your results will not affect the next chapter.

4.     The storyteller will determine how the next scenario plays out, involving some of the aspects of the last scenario - the ST may change over time - I'm excited about it right now and I have some ideas, plus I'll do several scenarios so people have an idea of what I'm getting at. We may even reset for a new Campaign.

5.     Special instructions: Some games will have special setup instructions. Please note, that because of these, if they have a special setup, Do Not Submit them to the Statistics project. These will not be standard games.

6.     We'll keep all the results in one thread, and a separate thread with all the Scenarios to keep it a bit more clear. I will post the scenario in both threads, to help but one thread will be kept pretty clear.

7.     If you don't have all of the components to play a game completely, you can still submit a game, replacing the missing parts. Whether or not that game will be accepted as part of the results is up to the ST.

Chapter 1 - Sun and Moon

Location: Outside the Rook City Museum

Ra:  Maia, this is fantastic. Thank you for sponsoring the new Egyptian exhibit.

Wraith:  You did all the work, I just shipped it here.

*Haka joins them.*

Haka:  Ahh, so this is where everyone is.

Ra:  Great that you can make it Aata, but where did you find a tux that would fit you?

Haka:  *with a huge grin on his face* I learned to sew.

*Sensing something is wrong, Ra looks up.*

Ra: Too bad we couldn't have the event during the day, I always preferred the sun over the moon, and tonight, the moon looks awfully big.

Wraith: *staring up at the sky* Too big if you ask me.

*Suddenly, the outline of a Mobile Defense Platforms forms over the face of the moon.*

Wraith: Blade. *Wraith takes out her phone.* Aminia, tell the team that Blade is in Rook City.

Aminia: Ok, they should be there shortly.

Wraith: Hmm...Stinson should have been here by now.

Ra: Should we wait?

Haka: *gently folds his tux and puts if off to the side.* I see no reason they should have all the fun.

Wraith: Ok, let's go.

Setup

Villain: Advanced Baron Blade

Heroes: Wraith, Ra, and Haka

Environment: Rook City (If you don't have Rook City, use Megalopolis, and mention that in the results).

Notes: The heroes can be played in any order. Use the normal version of each character, not the promos.

Special rules: None

Results to note

-Did the heroes win? If not, did they lose by having 15 cards in the trash, or by being incapacitated.

-The number of cards in the villain trash before Blade flips.

-Final hp of each character. The heroes and Blade (if they lost).

-At the end of the game, did Wraith have a Mega-Computer out, and how many?

Results Due by Sun, October 27th, 11:59 PM CDT.

Yes. The Wraith tried calling for backup, but nobody showed up yet. I wonder why.

There's no Ra when the moon is up, that's when Dr. Blake Washington Jr gets to come out and play. And he might have fared better than my team did.

Hero loss! (2 Blighted Streets and 2 Twisting Back Alleys did not help)

10 Cards in the trash when he flipped (6 targets, all kills by the heroes!)

Blade ended on 15 HP (last turn Flesh-Repair Nanites), every one else on 0

0 Mega Computers (3 during the game, all used for an Inventory Barrage)

Heroes triumphant, due largely to a turn 1 Dr. Tremata and a turn 3 Tony Taurus. The fact that Ms. Maia managed to get 3 copies of her Mega Computer online didn't hurt either.

16 cards in the trash when the Baron flipped means he was right on the cusp of getting that beam fully activated, however.

A judicious use of smoke bombs led to a final hp of 13 for both Haka and Wraith and 12 for Ra.

Hmmm... I wonder why no one else showed up to help. Do you think Aminia had trouble contacting them for some reason? It's not like her to fail to get the whole team together right away. I hope nothing's wrong back at the office...

My results:

Hero Victory!

Final HP:  Wraith [13]; Ra [13]; Haka [16]

Blade had 9 cards in his trash when he flipped.

Wraith had one Mega Computer in play by the end of the game.

I got a good run of Impromptu Invention to start the game and was able to keep Wraith's damage down with Stun Bolt/Micro-Targeting Computer and a well-timed Throat Jab.   Plus, Haka was able to eat several of the Baron's cards with Savage Mana, which turned out to be the killing blow.

Had a real nailbiter on my hands this game!

Result: Hero Victory

Ra - 0

Wraith - 1

Haka - 0

Game ended with a 11 point inventory barrage with Barron at 10hp. There was one Mega Computer that was destroyed in the final barrage for what that might be worth. There was no other option.

Barron flipped with 15 cards in his discard. It came down to Haka (last in turn order) discarding his whole hand with a Haka of battle to deal the final 7 damage to get him into phase 2.

I wouldn't say this one was a nailbiter, but it was tought.

Result: Heroes won, yeah.

Haka was at the highest HP with 12, followed by Ra at 5, and then Wraith at 3. Baron Blade at the end was tied with a Powered Remote Turrent for lowest HP target at 2 HP. In the end, his plan was ultimately foiled by not watching where his giant robot was stepping as he hit a building and was hit by some falling statuary, thus ending his mad rampage.

Do you remeber how many cards were in Blade's trash before he flipped, or how man Mega Computers were in play at the end of the game?

I put that information into the spreadsheet. I forgot to count how many cards were in the trash, but it had to have been 12 or 13, so I put in 12. There were no Mega Computers in play.

Horrible game! Once Baron Blade flipped, the combined power Twisting Back Alleys, Living Force Field, and his advanced text proved to be too much DR for the heroes. Only hero that was capable of dealing any damage was Wraith. Toss in the Backlash Field, meaning any damage that was able to get through the DR, meant they would just get hit right back. The thing that makes it worse is Wraith had a Throat Jab and Haka had a Ground Pound for several rounds in the game, but neither could do anything with because of the DR or lack of cards.

Wraith was certainly the key to this senario. She is the only one with ongoing/enviro destruction (and trying to destroy RC cards usually comes at a high cost otherwise), and backlash field is certainly a high priority to get rid of. Combine that with the fact that Element. Dist. is a large enough threat to keep Ra on his heels the entire game (Imbued Fire is a non-option), Wraith also has to pick up some damage slack with Razor/MicroTarget (Haka can't do it all alone). On top of that you needed to find time to play a Mega Computer and hope devious disruption doesnt show up. Wraith had so much she needed to do and not enough time to play it all.

I was having time to play anything that I could, but the issue was drawing what I needed. I never seen one Grappling Hook, which is why Backlash Field and Living Forcefield was such a huge problem. What I should of done was let Ra die sooner so that way I could of used his incap powers to get rid of those Ongoings. After the flip, Ra and Haka never were able to deal damage to Blade, only to the lackies in his deck.

Let me throw in a request: Could at least a couple of the scenarios be formulated from ONLY things available in the Core Set, with no expansions/promos? there are people who are relatively new to the game that might like to be part of this and couldn't otherwise.

"Where the heck are you guys?"  Wraith yelled into her wrist communicator, "We can't get through his defenses!"

2 Living force fields, Elemental redistributor, all three defense platforms, Twisting Back Alleys and Scum and Villainy.  It was a perfect storm.

Wraith barraged the only Mega Computer she got into play to drop Baron to 3hp.  Unfortunately that was where he remained with exactly 15 cards in the trash.  Even Haka trapping two cards under Savage Mana couldn't stop it.

So:

Hero Loss by cards in trash = 15

Baron Blade 3hp

No Mega Computers

Haka: 22hp

Ra:  18hp

Wraith:  8hp

This is honestly the first time I've lost to Blade.  I've come up with extra hard scenarios and still never even seen him win on the front side.  Heroes even got good cards, Blade and Rook City just shut us down.  Cool scenario, can't wait to see where it leads.

I seriously considered this issue and was going to make it happen in Megalopolis, but Rook City is better for the story. Unfortunately, it only gets worse after this.
I have a more ideas for this game, but the original idea was to have different story tellers each time. So, if someone else wants to start a new campaign with core only, we can use that idea and switch off the story teller each time. If nobody does, I will start a second one later tonight.

Baron Blade even on his advanced side is usually kind of a chump. Rook City helped balance him. The fight is difficult without being nightmarishly insane and annoying, unlike fighting the Chairman in Rook City, ugh. I've had some ideas for a Sentinels type RPG experience that I could adapt into a Living Sentinels type experience that uses only the core set. I'm busy this next couple of weeks, though.

I feel like I could have played that better... It was close, with Baron Blade left with 6HP. I didn't realize just how bad Backlash Field and Living Force Field could be. Toxic Sludge was doing my work for me by the end, but Baron Blade prevailed. There was one Mega Computer out earlier, but it got destroyed by a premature Inventory Barrage.

I'm not asking for the whole thing to use core set only material, just for at least some of the scenarios in the arc to, if that's possible.

I will try, but how about this in the meantime. If there are only a couple of things not from the core set, I will put down a core set replacement. So in this game, if you want to keep everything the same, but play in Megalopolis, that's fine. Just be sure to mark down the different in the results, and I will take that into account. (Rook City is a more difficult environment than Megalopolis.)

I think the main reason heroes had more losses is because 3 heroes vs. advanced Baron Blade is harder than a lot of people thought.  I've done a lot of self-plays 3 vs advanced Blade, and he is very difficult.  There's usually not quite enough damage ouput to take out all of the villains targets without taking a lot of damage.  I find in my self-plays that I get him to flip, but I've used so many damage dealing cards and taken more damage than usual (to prevent cards going into his trash) that his flip side is difficult to finish off.  I estimated as much as 40% loss percentage when the setup is 3 heroes vs. advanced Baron Blade of my own self-plays.

Early Backlash Field is almost always the reason for the loss, because heroes are forced into taking damage from Blade.  And then when he does flip, his auto DR and damage dealing combined with the Backlash Field that probably hasn't been dealt with ensures Blade finishes off the heroes.  In my game, Wraith got the Eyepiece out.  We had to let Blade heal for 10 HP so he couldn't play a Living Field Force.  That meant another turn of damage from a Blade Battlion and Toxic Sludge (we used the Sludge to destroy the Racketter the first chance we had, or else we'd taken even more damage).

Rook City is one of the most anti-hero environments there are, combing all of these factors, it's not a surprise Baron Blade managed to get so many wins.

I played in one of the other submitted games, but someone else did the submitting, so I figure I can add my entry.

Lost by incap after the flip (11 cards in his discard at the time). It was close. Baron Blade had 10 HP remaining and Wraith was ready to Inventory Barrage for 14, but the environment and villain turns were brutal and she didn't get the chance. There was one Mega Computer.

Using Megalopolis instead of Rook City (since I don't own the latter), the heroes won.

The Baron had either 13 cards in the trash before he flipped.

Ra had 11 HP, the Wraith had 7; Haka had 10.

There were 2 Mega-Computers in play.

Great. Thanks a lot. I have been sitting here working on the next scenario, and your results just upped the average Mega Computer to 1. Now I have to go back and change everything. wink

No reason not to spoil it a little now. The Mega Computers helped the heroes get to where they needed to be, and the more Computers the mroe heroes in the next round. The average was at 0, which meant 3 heroes, but I just went back and added another one, for the extra Mega Computer.

Heroes win, barely.

The Baron had 13 cards in his trash prior to flipping. He had 21 when he flipped. Haka Savage Mana'd 8 of them.

Wraith - 4 HP

Ra - 8 HP

Haka - 1 HP

Mega Computers: 2

Chapter 2 - Men and Gods

2A - A Man Becomes a God

Baron Blade: Finally, those heroes won't stop me this time.

Minion: Umm...Boss, they destroyed the machine!

Baron Blade: Maybe, but it still worked, maybe not perfectly, but it worked.

Minion: Umm...Boss, the machine didn't work, the moon is still up there.

Baron Blade: Fool, who wants to destroy the Earth! I only needed to pull the moon closer, and it worked. Look...

*Baron Blade points to his Living Force Field and it begins to pulse as if alive.*

Baron Blade: This...device...is full of mystical energy, but it only contains the a fraction of its true potential. I searched the Earth for something similar, but I couldn't find anything. There was only one place left to look, beneath the waves.

Minion: Umm...Boss, what does that have to do with the moon?

Baron Blade: Fool, the moon controls the waves on this planet, the closer it is, the bigger they will be. With the seas  in turmoil, all we have to do is wait for the energy to reveal itself.

*The Living Force Field grows stronger.*

Baron Blade: See, the energy is being revealed, all we have to do is find it. Let's move.

Minion: Umm..Boss, shouldn't we build another Mobile Defense Platform?

Baron Blade: No time, they destroyed the machine before the moon was in its proper place, we have to move now to find it before them.  That Wraith's Mega Computers might be able to find this place.

Minion: Umm...Boss, I don't think we have to worry about those Mega Computers. I saw her throw a couple of them at you.

Baron Blade: Let's hope you are right. Let's go.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Visionary: This is where Maia said to be. *Seeing Tempest.* Glad you got my message.

Tempest: Why is the ocean in such chaos?

*The waves push away revealing very old ruins.*

Tempest: Whoa! What is that?

Fanatic: *Flying down to join him.* I was wondering the same thing.

Nightmist: *Solidifying next to them.* Those are the Ruins of Atlantis.

Fanatic: The Atlantis? The one that sunk.

Nightmist: Atlantis didn't sink. It was buried. It was sunk on purpose.

Tempest: Why?

Nightmist: It was the only way to keep it locked inside.

Tempest: What?

Visionary: I sense pain.

Nightmist: I sense darkness.

Fanatic: I sense evil.

Tempest: I sense calamari.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Baron Blade is walking among the Ruins, and the Living Force Field is growing in power.*

Baron Blade: Hahahaha...Finally, the world will bow to me! But this isn't enough power, not of the Ruins having been exposed. I know...I know...all I have to do is bring the moon a bit closer. All I have to do is rebuild the machine!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tempest: Who is that man down there?

Visionary: Baron Blade. I sense he has something to do with this.

Fanatic: What is Baron Blade doing here?

*Energy is flowing from the Ruins into the Living Force Field.*

Nightmist: He is taking the energy of Atlantis! We must stop him!

Fanatic: So, let's take him out.

Nightmist: We can't, the energy is making him invincible!

Tempest: No problem, we just destroy Atlantis. It is in ruins anyway.

Nightmist: No! If you do, you will free what is trapped in there.

Tempest: So, we can't get him, but we can't destroy the ruins. What should we do?

Nightmist: *with a deep sigh* I...don't...know..."

Setup

Villain: Advanced Baron Blade

-Baron Blade starts with 10 (average hp) + 12 (cards in trash, energy from Atlantis) = 22 hp.

-Remove all 3 copies of Mobile Defense Platforms from the game (the heroes destroyed them last game).

-Remove 1 copy of Living Force Field from the game, and put the other copy into play.

-Living Force Field has the following text:

            This card is indestructible.

Reduce damage to Baron Blade by 1 for each environment card in play.

-If there are 15 cards in the trash at the start-of-the-turn on Baron Blade's setup side, the heroes do not lose the game. Instead, add 30 hp to his current hp, put the rest of the environment deck into play (the moon reveals all of the ruins), and flip Baron Blade's card.

-If Baron Blade is reduced to 0 hp on his setup side, flip him, and restore his hp to 30.

Heroes (any order): Visionary, Tempest, Fanatic, and Nightmist (if you don't have Nightmist, you can use Wraith).

Environment: Ruing of Atlantis.

-At the beginning of the game, put the top 12 (cards in trash) / 3 = 4 cards of the environment deck into play (these were revealed by the moon in the last game).

-If the environment deck runs out, do NOT shuffle the trash into the environment deck.

Special rules: None

Results to note

-Did the heroes win?

-The number of cards in the environment trash at the end of the game.

-Final hp of each character. The heroes or Blade (if they lost).

Results Due by Sun, November 3rd, 10:00 PM CST.

2B - A Man Challenges a God

Mysterious Voice: Blade, why are so incompetent. Well, at least you are consistently incompetent, and it is easy to plan for. I will make sure the other heroes don't bother you, but don't fail this time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

*Tachyon helps Wraith from the ground.*

Wraith: Stinson, where have you been? Blade just got away!

Tachyon: Blade? I am here because of the hostage situation at the museum.

Ra: What?

Tachyon: We just got the call from Aminia, thugs have taken over the museum.

Wraith: Let's go!

*Everyone walks up to the museum, and they see Legacy, Bunker and Absolute Zero inside.*

Bunker: What happened to you?

Wraith: Blade.

Legacy: WHAT? WHERE?

Ra: He got away, but it doesn't matter. Look!

*Everyone turns, and they see the Operative running into a glowing portal surrounded by Egyptian hieroglyphs .*

Absolute Zero: Follow her!

Ra: Wait! That rune above the portal, it's Anubis.

Bunker: Is that bad?

Ra: It's not good.

Legacy: Doesn't matter, we have to follow. You three look beat up, you stay here and cover the entrance from this side. Everyone else, let's go.

There seems to be a double post for 2A. You'd like us to run both games?
