Every time I pull out the space durgon for a fight there's a moment in the game where I look away from his HP will suddenly go from mid-high 20's to low teens. Sometimes it happens on his turn but othertimes it happens on the enemy's turn. Is there like any way of making him be not super squishy?
I'll put things in here later.
I love him.
The casing helps to reduce damage
You just need a good timing for cosmic immolation.
I often use it if the casing and alien arcana let me do a lot of damage, as well as calculated action lets me play some more cards and if matter manipulator lets me activate 2 damage dealing powers for some super duper damage turns before he dies.
He draws a lot of cards, it should be no problem to get some of the mentioned cards.
Maybe he is a little frail if you have both cosmic immolations out and you are doing a lot of his self damage one shots. Where he gets the most bang for his buck on cosmic immolation are Alien Arcana and Terminarch casing. Whats that you say only 1 damage pff.... oh with all 3 thats 15 damage a turn without even playing a card or using a power if you already have both immolations. While not Tempest vs. a huge swarm of enemies damage levels it is pretty handy. Plus he never lacks for cards in his hand.
I suppose he can be a little on the fragile side, but I’m usually pretty careful to try and protect him - his damage potential is pretty great.
The Casing is a great defensive card though...
Vitality Battery can also be pretty great if you’re in a target heavy fight.
I think you need to concentrate on his health though, as while he has ways of mitigating damage and healing, a lot of his effects are self damaging, and if he’s taking a lot of hits, Cosmic Immolation can come back to bite him, so he needs balance between getting the most out of his offence while keeping himself alive.
I’ve really enjoyed using him so far though.
You just need to know that he is awesome ;P
There existed a thread of maximum damage per hero per turn, can‘t wait for Lifeline.
I forgot to mention that some heroes allow you to redirect/prevent damage to other heroes.
Let‘s have a look at the recent season pass 2 heroes alone.
Benchmark, redirection to him
Medico, healing
(Cosmic Inventor) Writhe, prevention/redirection to enemy
Mainstay, redirection to him
Akash‘Thryia, redirection to seeds
There are so many heroes but IMO they aren‘t necessary to let Lifeline shine.
I've got to say, dropping a Heroic Interception before Lifeline's turn comes around almost isn't fair to the villains... Really lets you cut loose!
It's not just you. Lifeline is really frail. The good news is that there's an easy way of going around this: Put Ra on the same team as him. "Imbued Fire" + "Flesh of the Sun God" nullifies all self-inflicted damage. Lifeline's cards will still work even if he hasn't inflicted any damage to himself.

For that damage output, they had to limit him SOMEHOW. Dark Crusader's mentioned method is foolproof, and as Roger the Alien already mentioned, having a "tank" role character soak up damage for him is always the ideal strategy.
Another idea I haven't seen mentioned yet is using Captain Cosmic's Energy Bracer. I know some people find Captain Cosmic underwhelming or too difficult to use, but I absolutely love his ability to give armor to other heroes and not just himself.

Some days ago I defeated Gloomweaver at almost full health as well as some cultists and zombies and 2 relics.
Why do I mention it... It happened during Lifelines turn and Vitality Battery was out, defeating all the zombies and cultists and bringing the zombies back let him recover so much health.
This will even work better in team games or when his variant is released.
Is this a common thread? Because Captain Cosmic is honestly amoung my favorite heroes to use. Granted it's more for Dynamic Syphon and Augmented Ally but the rest of his stuff is still great...aside from wounding buffer.
I'll put things in here later.
I don't know how common it is, I just know I immediately ran across comments of "Y Captain Cosmic so underwhelming/hard to play?!" while Google searching artwork for him for my SotM articles. I don't want to derail from Lifeline, but I love CC, and I think he goes great with Lifeline and Setback. I guess some people haven't realized his potential.

Support heroes are normally ignored in most media unfurtunatly, not just in SotM.
Requital CC can produce a ton of mayhem, both the support kind and the damage kind-- he's my go-to CC.
Most of the other heroes' "damage me for cool stuff" cards require actual damage to happen, his don't.
Lifeline more than makes up for his self damage via strong and consistent damage output and board control. There is a reason he is the #1 (non-promo) hero in the stats at the moment - https://mindwanderer.net/sotm/app-stats-lite.html.
You mean, of the five new ones. Out of all non-promo heroes, he's 7th.
