Battle of the teams 2

Back in 2016 I decided to take the at the time 3 canonical teams up against every villain on advanced. Now that Harpy and Void Guard are out digitally I wanted to start a new battle of the teams. I'm going to do things a little differently this time and this will involve over 1000 games of Sentinels - so it will probably be a very long time before I finish.

The rules:

-There will be 8 teams so that every hero can participate, the teams will be:

1. Freedom 5: Legacy, Bunker, Wraith, Tachyon, Absolute Zero

2. Prime Wardens: AA, Captain Cosmic, Fanatic, Haka, Tempest

3. Dark Watch: Expat, Nightmist, Setback, Fixer, Harpy

4. Void Guard: Medico, Mainstay, Idealist, Writhe

5. Team Alternate Realities: La Comodora, Visionary, Omnitron-X, Chrono-Ranger

6. Team Revo-Corp: Luminary, Stuntman, Parse, Unity, Benchmark

7. Team Space: Lifeline, The Sentinels, Sky-scraper, KNYFE

8. Team Nature a.k.a Team Guise-n-Palz: Akash'thriya, Naturalist, Ra, Scholar, Guise

-No variants.

-Each villain will be fought once by each team on each difficulty. Environments will be selected at random and held constant for all teams.

-There will be 4 total Vengeance matches per team per difficulty, so that the 4 hero teams can face each villain once. Each match will have a randomly selected fifth villain that will appear in only the 5 hero games. These matches were randomized in such a way that no villain will appear more than twice or less than once per difficulty.

-Matches will be played in random order, though Challenge/Ultimate games against Trickster Kismet or Team villains will be postponed until those modes exist for those villains.

-After each round I'll post the results in this thread and I'll also post what the next round will be.

-Feel free to cheer on your favorite teams!

So will you be doing advanced by default again or will the difficultly be chosen randomly?

All 4 difficulties, so I be facing each villain 4 times per team for a total of 32 games per villain.

Surprised Nature was able to win against Kaagra, most people there take awhile to set up.

Thanks Missingno, that's super helpful! The Nature team was able to win in large part due to Steady damage from Ra and some really good tanking from Naturalist. Scholar was mostly support and Guise and Thriya just kind of helped out in a bunch of little ways.

RC lost against ulti infiniator but nobody else did?  Huh, you would have thought more people would biff it, plus RC is pretty powerful and heavy on the irrducable damage so it's odd that they were the ones to fail it.

The deciding factor in a number of these games was when Meteor Storm came out, since Infinitor has no Ongoing, Equipment or Environment Destruction. It was never played in the Dark Watch, Void Guard, Alternate Reality, or Revocorp games. Void Gaurd was able to earn a narrow win thanks to Medico being able to heal Mainstay and Writhe. Dark Watch won thanks to Nightmist's mistform and Alternate reality won by buffing Chrono-Ranger's damage to Infinitor by 4 and just outpacing Infinitor. Revo-corp came fairly close, but in the end they were just outpaced.

I fully expect this to take months, if not over a year. I find most of the time during my commute to and from work by train and my lunch break. Though I'll play a few games in the evening or on weekends as well.

I didn't realize Challenge Chokepoint was such a beast, either way we have our first proper lead with Team Nature!  And ouch, Revocorp is down to a 50% winrate.

Kinda surprised Nature didn't win against The Chairman.  They're kinda good against him, especially Akash who can fill Rook City with plants.  Also kinda surprised at how poorly the Prime Wardens are doing in general.

At least it isn’t in MMFFCC and the environment doesn’t target villains for damage.

In general, everytime I thought "I'm ok as long as Jail Break isn't played this round". Chairman immediately played jail break and I lost hard. The only games I was able to win were the ones where I could use deck control to manage the timing of jail breaks.

Also, I fixed your counts, I think you were missing round 5 or 6.

Dandolo, obviously you're a very experienced player, but would you say there are heroes you're less effective at using that might make certain teams do worse than if another experienced player performed this experiment?  Just curious.

No I'm pretty familiar with all the heroes. I have less games with the Oblivaeon heroes than the older ones but I know thier decks pretty well from heavy playtesting.

On the other hand, I'm sure there are other players who play more Ultimate mode than I do and are probably more used to how that mode changes the game.

I'm honest to god shocked that RC was the only one to lose to iron legacy.  That team has Luminary and Parse on it, they're kings of blowing up ongoings.  Honestly I'm shocked that team keeps failing in general considering it's got 4 super high power heroes on it.

Yeah, theoretically that team is probably the best matchup for facing Iron Legacy. All 5 heroes have ongoing destruction in their deck, with Parse and Luminary being among the best in the game at it. I've found Luminary to be really effective against Iron Legacy in the past. I think what's holding that team back a bit is they don't really have a good plan B for when things go bad.

For example Dark Watch has pulled off a few wins with Nightmist as the last hero standing including the Iron Legacy match. Prime Wardens won against Iron Legacy thanks to Tempest's Incap. The Freedom 5 and Void Guard were able to stall for time with healing/damage prevention.

Yeah, now that I think about it that team is lacking in plan B outside of Luminary uses a doomsday devise.  And honestly Nightmist makes DW and PW having the same amount of wins make a lot more sense considering how durable she is in base form.

Nature and Prime Wardens won via losing to the odds. Nature did so on the very first turn.

Dark Watch lost to Harpy having no cards in her deck and Freedom 5 lost to Who are you fighting. All other matches ended with regular villain destruction though Alt. Reality had to use Chrono-Rangers destroy a target bounty to circumvent Who are you fighting.

So if I figured everything out right, there should be a total of 130 rounds (1040 games).  Which means at your current rate of 19 rounds per month (which is an average of 5 games per day-wow!) it should take a little under 7 months for you to complete this (putting the end around Thanksgiving).  Of course this assumes Challenge Mode for Trickster Kismet and the team villains is released before then so you can actually do those matches, which I can easily see not happening.  I don't know how your schedule varies throughout the year and if you'll have more or less time in other months, but I'd say this is a pretty impressive pace so far and well within your earlier estimates of how long it would take.

The total round count will be 134:

118 regular villain matches and 16 Vengeance Style.

Of those 10 matches are waiting on GTG since Trickster Kismet and the Villains from VotM still need Challenge and Ultimate modes.

May was a busy month for me and July and August will be as well, so I wouldn't be surprised if I was able to play more games in June but then slow back down for the following couple of months.

I was getting 114 regular villain matches from (23 regular villains + 6 variants) x 4 difficulties - 2 since Challenge/Ultimate Skinwalker is the same as Challenge/Ultimate Agent of Gloom.  Is there a villain I'm missing?  I assumed you're not including OblivAeon.

There are 24 solo villains not 23.  I’m not sure offhand which villain you are skipping in your count.

Figured out it was Chokepoint I was missing, despite her already having been faced in this battle.  For some reason I was thinking there were only 3 mini-pack villains.
